My name is Kirsty. I was born in Whitechapel in 1990, and I have lived in east London for almost my entire life. I lived in Stepney, Bow, and the Isle of Dogs before leaving my family home for south London, where the rents were slightly more reasonable, in 2014.

The topography of my past is so tightly woven into the streets of east London that there is almost no use in drawing a distinction between the two. Every event of significance, every ‘first’, every childhood summer, every friendship and every loss can be mapped within a few miles of one another.

Since I left, I have found that I miss the East End more than I ever could have imagined. The area is going through such rapid changes that I began to worry that it would soon be unrecognisable. That’s when I had the idea to begin this blog.
